WHERE FLOWERS BLOOM, SO DOES HOPE

Mural location: Rolex Boutique GWC @ 1119 Alberni St, Vancouver, BC

Vancouver Mural Festival is partnering with a number of local businesses and Business Improvement Associations to support local artists while bringing hope and positivity to the streets in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. With boarded up windows becoming an increasingly common occurrence in neighbourhoods across the city, VMF enlisted a large group of its alumni and other local artists to donate temporary mural work to these locations. We anticipated the creation of more than 40 temporary murals across several areas in only a few days. All artists will be designing imagery and messages to spark joy and/or celebrate the resilience of our communities; and will be paid an honorarium with supplies being covered.

Note: During this project the City of Vancouver COVID-19 social distancing rules will remain in effect and all artists will be following health and safety regulations.

I was very excited to participate in the VMF Mural for hope program which aims to spark joy and celebrate resilience in our communities during challenging times. Cherry blossoms are a sign of Spring and that warmer and brighter days are ahead. I hope to remind Vancouver of the beauty that exists in our city and that there is a whole “outside world” to be explored inside the world of art and we are all in this together!

Special thanks to: Drew Young of Vancouver Mural Festival, Vancity, Downtown Vancouver BIA, Goodbye Graffiti Inc, and the City of Vancouver.
