"Stages of Bloom" is a mural that embodies the magical personal transformation and unity experienced by students, staff, visitors and patrons of the beloved Gateway Theatre in Richmond. Gateway is a safe place that welcomes, inspires, explores and encourages growth through play. The variety of flowers in different stages of bloom symbolize the diversity and inclusive nature of the individuals who make up the Gateway Community. Poppies representing the marginalized, wild and free. Hibiscuses originate from the South Pacific, representing the many immigrant families that have found their home in the City of Richmond. A reimagined daisy with rainbow coloured petals representing all who identify with the LGBTQ+ community. Finally a classic pink peony, a poetic and beautiful flower beloved by all, just like Gateway Theatre itself. They're all free to develop in their own time and space - together. The blue star belt represents the depth and ups and downs of the hopes and dreams being fulfilled through the many nighttime performances on Gateway's main theatre stage. Opening night is a night where stories take flight, hard work is celebrated and a community comes together. The flowers in cosmic unison show the beauty that's possible when a community is nurtured to achieve their full potential."
