Carmen Chan is a VISUAL ARTIST living in beautiful Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada.

Carmen (she/her) paints in the style of Chinese Brush painting, a delicate and traditional form of Chinese watercolour painting on feather light and porous rice paper. Soft silk fabrics are used for mounting the artwork and framed using a traditional method which soaks the entire painting with water to smooth out wrinkles and mend any rips. To preserve and support Chinese art and culture, Carmen uses all authentic rice paper, brushes and art supplies purchased from local art stores in Hong Kong, the city where she was born and lived in during her early childhood.

Inspired by her years of painting on Saturdays at her art teacher's home, Carmen has developed a nostalgic appreciation for a thoughtful painting process. She believes art and painting can be a form of self care and a practice of self reflection. She is the creator of the Morning tea and Watercolour painting class, a painting workshop focused on calm and relaxation, while practicing Chinese Brush painting, her idea of a perfect weekend morning.

Carmen’s watercolour paintings have been exhibited at the Surrey Art Gallery, Kafkas Cafe, Earls Restaurants, ROVE and 100 Braid St Studios. She is also a mural artist and Vancouver Mural Festival alumnae.
